Let Us Learn Hindi

With  the growing number of Indian immigrants  to USA and English speaking countries of the world, Hindi, the  national language of  India,  that is, Bharat,and its rich sociocultural traditions have also crossed the geographical boundaries  and extended globally. Living far away  from their motherland, the Indian immigrants  now comprise a  big chunk of the western  population. No  matter, the new generation of  these immigrants is brought up in a different environment, yet they are striving  hard  to preserve and promote their  social-cultural  vehicle is the single greatest medium through  which this objective  can be achieved best. The publication of the book, entitled, " Aao Hindi Sikhen" by  Sarita Mehta is a step towards this direction. Its two-fold object  is  to facilitate the teaching and learning of Hindi through the medium of English as an effort  to strengthen their emotional and cultural bonds with their ancestral land, and to develop rapport with the English-speaking western society by the spread and popularization of their national language. It has been written, primarily, keeping in mind the needs and requirements of the children of the children of Indian immigrants, now settled in foreign countries, The author adopts some unconventional and innovative methods to present the subject matter of this colorful and pictorial publication, which is specially designed for the beginners, multilingual children as well as adults, who intend to learn Hindi as a second language. It reproduces the Hindi alphabet and the text in Devanagri as well as Roman scripts. In the process, an attempt has been made to standardize the use of Roman script for writing the Hindi alphabet so as to make it easy for the English-speaking  learners to pick up correct pronunciation and comprehend the numerous phonetic intricacies of he language. It is done by the combination of Roman letters to present the Hindi alphabet and the use to signs and symbols without indulging in the linguistic details or sacrificing the standard norms. The author strives to simplify and popularize the teaching and learning of Hindi by correlating it to the prevalent multicultural environment, social life and language of the learners and their families. Thereby, the learning of Hindi becomes a very simple and interesting affair. No wonder , the books makes a unique contribution towards the advancement of knowledge and learning in one of the premier languages of the world.
